September 2016 Fishing Report
Englewood & Boca Grande Monthly Fishing Updates
The transition into a couple of the best fishing months we have to offer is kicking off a bit early this year. September and October will continue to be two of my favorite months to fish. Why? The bait is thick and the fish are onto it, and the pressure of fisherman has died down tremendously.
Snook fishing remains strong as there is still plenty of fish gulf side as well as some fish making their way to the back country already. As thick as the bait is, I've been able to chum heavy and really run up the numbers of snook.
Contrary to popular belief, tarpon are here still in large numbers and have made for some quality trips lately. Some days I'm fishing for the juveniles (5-30lbs) and other days I'm after adult fish exceeding a 100lbs. I am now witnessing the fish changing from a spawning pattern to actively feeding on the baitfish schools, which provides an incredible visual. I will continue to catch adult tarpon until October, it's not just May and June!
Redfish schools are now starting to show up. I've seen a couple schools of breeders now in the 100 fish school range. This fishing is going to bust wide open in the next couple months. I will really focus on them come Mid Sept - late Oct.
